Digging deep this month, DZ. Bobby Bare, Jr. and Gemma Hayes. Several years ago, I bought that Hayes album but the only way I could get it was ordering it straight from England…needless to say, I paid more than I probably should have.
Classical music fans may be interested in a wonderful Chorale Fantasy for Piano I heard live last night, a 2007 piece by the Korean composer Shinuh Lee. Entitled Comfort, Comfort My People, it’s in 10 parts, each part is inspired by a passage of scripture, and some parts have names taken from C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters. It’s quite remarkable to hear a young classical music composer writing – I quote – “to express Biblical messages and inspirations.”
Part One is here, and others are linked: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYbheu2rvvo
Should I be scared that every time I watch Portlandia I see myself?
