More from The Khrusty Brothers

As you might be able to tell, I am very into The Khrusty Brothers right now. Their lyrics provide a level of permission to listeners to be right where they are, and we can always use a little more permission to be ourselves. It can be scary to admit what we cover up with all of our effort. Still there is some kind of release when that permission comes. . . something begins to break.

Here are some lyrics from “Captain Purdue” that always seem to do the job:
Watching one more year go by
wondering when I’m gonna cry
I am half a football field
From the place my heart will yield

I’m sick of sinking down
In my tight black evening gown
It’s a lost cause everyday
And I’m faking it all the way

Thanks for the post Sean–you’re really making a case for the Krusty Brothers, though for some reason I usually end up thinking about either a) Krusty the Clown or b) Krispy Kreme donuts when I hear their name.

About the post though–I am trying to imagine what a world without some degree of private space would be like…I suppose just as we require private space (we cannot have a society/economy if we spend all day in self-disclosure…I mean, we need people to do stuff-to install carpets and teach children and invent pharmaceuticals and deliver milk, etc)…we also require open space as well. However, getting people who are used to ‘shutting down’ all day to express themselves probably represents a quantum-leap along the chain of evolutionary psychology. On the less ambitious front, one of the pastoral aspects of preaching, of course, is to be a mouthpiece for people–to say something embarrassingly human that will cause others to think, ‘Yeah, me too.’–then to remind them (this is the prophetic aspect of preaching) that Jesus didn’t say ‘shape up or ship out’, but ‘I’ve come to save sinners, so do your worst.’

Anyway, all I really want to know is whether there is someone in the crew who will record PZ and SP at the conference and give me a bootleg copy–JDK, perhaps?!?!

    Dylan,
Thanks for the comment. I think that most of us are masters of distraction to the point that we do not even connect with where we really are in our private space let alone an open one. Isn’t that kind of the post-modern thing: the fragmented self? I think often times there is just a feeling or suspicion that something isn’t right. Hopefully, more understanding words of grace and permission will allow for more integration whether it be in private or public.
The Khrusty Bros. seem like very integrated fellas to me.

We certainly intend to record the conference so that people can enjoy it again and again:)
