“What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

[Slight language warning for the anger-induced outcry at the end. You’ll know what we’re referring to when you hear it…]

These parents are far more ‘graceful’ than mine would have been at these outbursts. Still, it really goes to show what Christmas has become to many people.

Forbes- I agree, those are certainly graceful parents. In defense of the kids, however, I feel a certain sympathy for them. If it turned out that the promise of the holidays- peace, love, and presents- was all a bait and switch, I’d be pretty angry too. Just like if God’s promise of love and grace and gospel were bait-and-switched out for works and judgment and merit.

Maybe it’s an interesting parable for those burned by the church? Either way, the visceral reactions of the kids are surprisingly powerful!
