Low Anthropology: The Playlist

This one’s been cooking longer than the book itself.

This one’s been cooking longer than the book itself. Decided to make it double-sized since we missed a month in August. What would you include?!

P.S. Thank you, so much, to everyone who has made (and is making) this launch week such a joy! I am beyond encouraged.

Oh, now this is it right here!!!

  2. David Zahl says:

C’mon Ryan – what else should be on there??

  3. Ryan S. says:

    More Morrissey? Ha!

    • David Zahl says:

almost included Speedway but Lost is just too perfect (and a little less misanthropic, eh?)

  4. Mavis Moon says:

How about Free by Florence and the Machine?

I kind of expected Dylan’s Everything is Broken and was hoping for Todd Snider’s Alright Guy, but was sure you’d include John Prine’s In Spite of Ourselves or, at least, Hello in There. I totally struck out. Solomon Burke’s None of Us are Free, however, is priceless. Been a fan of his since I was in college in the 70s.

ooooh, these are great suggestions! Gonna add In Spite of Ourselves, forgot about that one. Absolutely perfection for the theme. (I love the lyrics of Dylan’s “Everything’s Broken” but the tune’s never captured me much)

Added Marcus Mumford’s brilliant “Stonecatcher” earlier today, too. Makes sense that a Low Anthropology playlist would be perpetually ‘in process.’

Sorry I missed it!! Good choice—if I do say so myself. 😉

  7. Gary says:

Conversation 16 by the National, 9 crimes by Damien Rice, the greatest/lived in bars by Cat Power, Fish in the Jailhouse by Tom Waits (or literally anything on bone machine).

This could get compulsive. I’ll stop here.

  8. Keith says:

Every Grain of Sand by Mr Bob Dylan?

  9. Janelle says:

From the High Fidelity movie soundtrack (a low anthropology confessional film if there is one!) “I’m wrong about everything.”

A local- favorite- turned-kind-of-a-big-deal: J.E. Sunde “I’m gonna disappoint you.”

And today, on the anniversary of his passing, I can’t help but think of Rich Mullins “We are not as strong as we think we are.”

Congratulations on the book — and on yet another diverse and enriching playlist!

So should I listen whilst reading L.A. = low volume in the background? Or before I read book, playlist cranked up in my car on the freeway, so quietly reading the book will be a relief? Or after I’ve read the book 3 times, discussed it with my pastor & friends, and listen for clues that I didn’t interpret the book correctly? Seriously, can’t wait to digest it all and finally become Super Christian! (hahaha)
