   I know what is being said here, though I feel that labelling it in the way it has been it could lead to confusion.

   Perhaps a useful distinction here is between the church gathered and the church scattered.

   As the church scattered, we should indeed be serving our neighbours ..

   .. however, as the church gathered, we come together in faith. Faith that God will feed us once again with his word and that he will listen as we respond to him in praise and petition. In that sense church isn't for others.

   I agree chris – Church is for the sake of those within, too…their need being just as great as the need of those without.
