Help Us Keep This Bird in the Air!

We have so much in store for 2024, but we need your support.

Mockingbird / 12.29.23

Brothers and sisters, the building fell. And now the work that went into it is all to do again — the work of persuading people to hear our song of redemption, of cruelty overthrown and even death laid low.

We published these words from acclaimed novelist Francis Spufford back in March, and they crystallize our fondest hopes for Mockingbird. To be an enlivening voice of God’s grace amidst the rubble of not just the church but, well, everything. A reliable dispensary of hope in a world that’s so desperate for — yet so ambivalent about — mercy.

This past year, we continued to sing that same old “song of redemption” in every key we know, and with such encouraging results. We hosted three major conferences — two of them in new locations (Orlando and Minneapolis) — all of which were filled to capacity. The audience for our five podcasts boomed to record heights. We published the two most successful issues of our print magazine yet (Sickness & Health and Mercy) and garnered well over a million pageviews of our website. Our staff is now ten wonderfully talented members strong, praise God.

We have so much planned for 2024. Our 16th annual NYC conference happens April 25-27th, and we are super excited to be hosting one in Charlottesville at the end of October. Issue 24: Mystery should be out before Valentine’s Day, and we’re hoping to have Paul Walker’s 364-day Almost Daily Devotional in your hands by Ash Wednesday. A new season of The Brothers Zahl podcast should be up by Easter. Then, in partnership with Grandview University and with the help of the Lilly Foundation, we will be launching a major preaching initiative (details soon!).

While the gospel remains resoundingly free of charge, the cost of everything else keeps rising. So we need your help more than ever. It will take $515,000 to fulfill our mission in 2024. If you are able, would you donate to support our ongoing ministry? Please keep us in your prayers too.

Gratefully Yours,

The Mockingbird Team
