Hey Sarah
I really enjoyed, “We Do No To This Because It Is Easy, But Because We Thought It would Be Easy” particularly your transparency and humor.
I’m writing to confirm the statement you shared regarding the omnipotence of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit introduced this “Bar Mitzvah boy” to Jesus about 43 years ago although I previously never cracked the New Testament and knew no Christian theology.
The setting was that I was severely depressed over the loss of a child and after fruitlessly trying to solve the situation, I finally, in desperation, asked God if, “would you give me a hand here?”
A week later He did.
I was in the middle of a tear filled session when I heard a soft very trebled voice speak to me from what seemed to be coming from my heart.
The voice simply said, without identify himself,”Stop trying to do things your way and follow Him.
I kid you not that without the voice identify itself or identifying whom I was to follow, with never having opened the New Testament or knowing any Christian theology, I knew that soft voice belonged to the Holy Spirit (I didn’t know who the Holy Spirit was) and I knew that He was telling me to follow Jesus!
Now, the same instant that I understood that God was reaching out to love me, the depression that was like a heavy weight on my person, just lifted, any my heart and mind were just flooded with what seemed like a river of peace.
Then I was faced with the challenge that you also alluded to, “How do you follow Jesus?”
Still working on that!
Thank you for reminding me of that moment, Sarah!
….and a word of advice regarding the challenge you mentioned in the beginning of the sermon:
I had the same challenge as you and eliminated ALL milk-based dairy product and it worked.
Thank you again!
