A Year-End Update from Mockingbird

What’s in Store for 2022 and How You Can Help

David Zahl / 12.30.21

I was shocked to realize this morning that we launched the overhauled mbird.com in … May. That feels like an eon ago! What a wild year it has been. So many challenges and false starts yet so many points of light. So much life. Hardly a day goes by where we haven’t heard from someone swearing that Mockingbird has been essential to their survival during this trying time. Praise God.

A few thanksgivings from 2021: The Spanish translation of our 2015 book Law & Gospel was air-dropped to pastors in Peru. Our podcast audience increased by 83%! We published 3 beautiful issues of our print magazine, most recently the Age Issue, our best-selling to date. Our first ever hybrid conference in Tyler went swimmingly. The blockbuster The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill podcast featured yours truly in its finale as a voice of grace. And oh yeah, the launch of this here websitehub.

What’s next?

In the next few months The Brothers Zahl will be back for another season, and a new cast called Terrible Parables is currently in post-production. Events-wise, look for us in Tulsa, OK, January 21-22, in NYC April 28-30, and in Tyler, TX Oct 21-22. (Pre-registration for those first two open now!).

DZ’s new book Low Anthropology: The Unlikely Key to a Gracious View of Others (and Yourself) arrives on Sept 13th. The Success & Failure Issue of the magazine should be here in March. All this while the parade of high-quality written and audio content continues apace.

How You Can Help

Mockingbird relies on the generosity of individual donors and churches to fund its operations. We need to raise $425,000 to meet our budget for 2022. Three easy ways to help are:

  1. Become a monthly supporter. Over 500 people give automatically to Mbird every month, anywhere from $20 to $2000. We would love to see that number increase. Monthly donors receive perks like bonus newsletters and special discounts on conferences and publications.
  2. See if your church can help. A handful of “partner” churches support us every year with funds from their outreach budgets. Others give via discretionary accounts. If you attend a church that is benefiting from our ministry but hasn’t gotten behind Mbird “officially” yet, be our advocate! Email us at info@mbird.com with any leads.
  3. Spread the word. If you’re not in a place where you can give, there are other ways to pitch in. Write a review of one of our books on Amazon. Rate one of our podcasts on iTunes. Publicize Mbird articles on Twitter or Facebook or Instagram. Use one of our resources at your church or in your small group. Invite folks to an event. Above all, pray for us!

We are so grateful for the outpouring of support we have received in 2021. If you would like to make a gift before the end of the year, please click here. Thanks for reading, and we wish you all God’s mercies in 2022.
