Yesterday morning, Comfort sailed into New York harbor. A few days ago, Mercy arrived in Los Angeles. I’m not sure I have ever witnessed a more powerful image of the Gospel.

Seeing it this way helps. Until now I’ve only been able to see these images as a grim reminder of the devastating failures of our Executive Branch leaders to prepare for the pandemic or even to provide the same: Mercy and Comfort. May the staff aboard these ships be God’s hands and feet in the world.
