JB- then my mission is succeeding!

FYI, that Dion song comes from Spector’s attempted mid-70s comeback production, “Born To Be With You” which Pete Townshend and Jason Pierce (of Spiritualized) both count at their favorite record of all time. It’s the same album that has Dion/Spector’s absolutely wild take on “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands” (included on a Mbird playlist a while back). Springsteen is quoted as saying that much of the inspiration for the Born to Run album came from his visit to the Born To Be With You sessions. Which makes sense, since Born To Run is the most successful Spector-pastiche of all time.

Then, that Michael Jackson song is an unreleased one from the Dangerous sessions that surfaced on the boxed set he released a couple of years ago. Pure gold! Makes me wonder how much stuff like that he’s got buried in the Neverland vaults.

And for those not paying attention, Justin Townes Earle (represented here with his perfect Replacements cover) is the son of singer/songwriter/Waylon-in-The-Wire Steve Earle, who named him after his hero – you guessed it – Townes Van Zandt.
