Greatest drama on television at the moment! The 3rd season, which will have it’s finale in a week or so, might even be better than the 1st season. Kate and I cried multiple times this season…it’s that good.

    Thanks for these R-J.

I second Sean’s assessment! Amazing show. It has even changed my thinking about football.

I just re-watched season one last month and was reminded how Tyra started off as a pretty unlovable character. In the first season Tyra is hostile to anyone– especially those who attempt to love her.

Eventually we see that Tyra’s attitude is a cover for the fear that she has of the life that’s ahead of her– she feels bound to share the same fate as her mother and sister– a broken woman stuck in Dillon with no future. She’s never been loved in a way that showed her that she could be anything different…until she’s forced to meet with Mrs.Coach/Tami Taylor. Tami shares that she was not unlike Tyra when she was in high school and challenges her to aim for college– and sticks with her through this process. Tami shows Tyra her worth by inviting her into her home and loving her as she is which then frees Tyra to want a new identity.

Sure, things are messy and Tyra’s relationships, even with Tami, are broken and rebuilt, but things are fundamentally different for Tyra. Her character is changed by the undeserved love that Tami shows her which changes the things she desires and the relationships around her.

With some of my favorite characters and a killer soundtrack to boot, I’m really glad FNL just got picked up for two more seasons!

Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.

This lecture will help broaden appreciation of football too–did you know that Gary Kasparov used to meet with Bo Schembeckler (former FB coach at Michigan) to discuss strategy b/c, Kasparov thought that there were close similarities between the two games!

anyway, here it is and we can't wait to get into this show too:)
